Hi alfaade.
Gilera R1 was produced in 1988.
It's the "sister" of Gilera XR1 (of mine). Components are the same!
If you send me your e-mail, I'll send you some pages of workshop manual with all gear settings.
Have a nice day!
Ciao
Marco

Hi
i'm not shure, but your bike should also be included in the manuals of the SP01.
You may have a look at
http://digilander.libero.it/nocturnus75/sp01.html
It's in italian and spanish

Hi Joachim, Hi alfaade.
No, be careful.
Gilera SP01 and RC Top Rally have engine with carter aspiration and a carburetor Dell'Orto VHSA 32 ES.
Gilera XR1 and R1 have engine with cylinder aspiration and a carburetor Dell'Orto PHBH 28 MD.
Ciao!

Hi Adrian.
Very well! Tomorrow I'll send you some documents about your bike......
But..... I've a little doubt....
Frame tipo (type) 145 *****......
Uhm......
But your bike it's a Gilera R1 1988, or a Gilera RC Rally 1986?
Please look at the attached pics and tell me more!

Hi Adrian.....
I've seen better pics that you sent me.......
No, there are some things that doesn't goes right....
- on you frame the written "Gilera 125 Rally" it's because.... I think that your bike have the same frame of a Gilera Rally 125;
- and Rally was produced in 1986 and 1987....
- the frame "145" it's of Gilera Rally ("150" it's for Gilera XR1 in 1988, "158" it's for Gilera CX in 1991....), maybe Rally have the same frame of R1.....;
- the black engine on your frame written Gilera Rally "RC" it's of Gilera R1;
- the cylinder on your engine it's of Gilera ER or RRT or KK.... because of the gray colour and because in this cylinder it's fitted "APTS valve 1" of Gilera ER, RRT, KK, Rally but not.... R1 (APTS 2)!
In short: it seems that you have an engine of a Rally fitted on your R1!
Was a little bit trouble.... but we have solved it!
So, I'll send you engine documents of Gilera Rally 125!
Ciao

Hi Adrian!
I think that there are some specialized handicraftsman that can to re-dress your saddle
My saddle it's the original 1988 saddle..... I was very lucky!
In Italy, I know this handicraftsman, that I usally meet at Novergro moto expo (near Milan).
If you want to re-dress your saddle (with Gilera brand printed), you can find more information at (Imola, near Bologna):
- Spallini Valeriano
- via del Lavoro, 6
- 40026 Imola (BO) - Italy
- tel. +39 0542 642120
- mob. +39 338 7675510 (after 18,00)
Sorry no e-mail.
If you want I can try to call him and ask about your saddle.
Have a nice day!
Ciao

Hi Adrian!
No problem!
Here's the data that you requested me:
forks oil quantitity: 340 cm3 each fork
oil type: Ohlins, Castrol, Motul; for this kind of forks (not very specialistics) every good oil it's right.....
fork settings: no settings screw; if you put into the forks a denser oil you'll have an hard reponse at handlebars.
carb settings (Gilera Rally 125):
- fuel N.O.= or > 96 (octane numbers)
- carburetor Dell'Orto PHBH 28MD
- diameter 28 mm
- maximum jet 155
- minimum jet 48
- starter jet 65
- conical pin X41/2nd position
- sprayer 262 DM
- throttle valve 40
Maximum power 26 HP (19,1 kW) at 9500 rpm!
float height level: weight 9,5 g, but on workshop manual there is not height level data
mixture screw turns: 1,5 turns
tickover rpm: 1500 +/- 100
spark plug gap: 0,6/0,7 mm
You are welcome!
Ciao
Marco
