Re: Wanted - 202 bayonet fuel filler cap

Looking at the Blau website it seems their type B50 fuel cap will fit my tank, specifically the B50 MBE-OENTL type: https://www.blau.co.at/en/products/fuel-caps/6004_85785_shop_B-50-MBE-OENTL.aspx?LNG=en Now I have to decide which type I go for - bayonet or flip-up......decisions, decisions  :D

"Supercortemaggiore"
Wow... what a name for a simple fuel tank cap
Happy italians

giggle Joachim
Supercortemaggiore seems to be a reference to a type of AGIP fuel:

Re: Wanted - 202 bayonet fuel filler cap

Thanks for the info guys, all very useful. *danke* The fuel tank in your previous post is actually of a Gilera 175 Giubileo Extra, not a 202. The 175 models had the flip up fuelcap, I think that the 202s always had a bayonet cap. Late models of the Gilera 124 (1965 and up) also had the same type bay...

This bike...

....has the same '180' prefix for engine and frame numbers plus a lot of other similarities to yours. Along with the date on the casting, this strongly suggests your Gilera is a 1958 rossa extra 175.

Re: Gilera 175

Keith, welcome, the list I have doesn't show a model with chassis number '180', the closest is 189 (see attachment) but the list may not be complete. Someone else may have a complete list and chime in. In the meantime, perhaps put up a picture of your bike and the engine/frame numbers as that might ...

Re: Gilera b300 gearbox problem

I don't know of anyone that reconditions selector drums (there's probably someone out there....), but that selector drum groove doesn't look too bad, although I think I can see some wear and burrs. A clean-up with a Dremel linishing drum/grinding wheel should be enough. The mating pins need to be in...

Re: Gilera b300 gearbox problem

The 'dogs' (4 round pins) on that gear are very badly worn and that would certainly explain the jumping out of gear problem. You should also check the mating gear 'slots' since they are also likely to be worn....hopefully not as badly. Replacement is the usual way to go, but might not be so simple w...

Re: Wanted - 202 bayonet fuel filler cap

did you only search for an original Gilera part? Maybe you will find something fitting in the range of other oldtimers, traktors, boats, garden machinery.... good luck, Joachim Thanks for the reply, Joachim. Yes I've done extensive searching. There's a 50's era volkswagen fuel cap that comes close,...

Re: Wanted - 202 bayonet fuel filler cap

Actually Nozem's restored 202 shows a bayonet fuel cap. Hopefully mine will look like this one day :)

Wanted - 202 bayonet fuel filler cap

The fuel tank I have for the 202 didn't come with a fuel cap, so I need to track one down. It's a bayonet type but seems to be an odd size and I haven't been able to find anything so far with the right dimensions. I've attached an image, which shows the filler neck dimensions so hopefully someone kn...

Re: New Saturno 500 IOM owner

I’m living in Tasmania Ok, sounds like you're on top of it. The reg process appears similar to Qld where they issue a special 'L01' plate, which is attached to the bike and confirms ADR compliance. In vic there's a mandatory engineering 'VASS' inspection (costs $400-$500) and the certificate is han...

Re: New Saturno 500 IOM owner

Personally, I'd take this: It has only 70km on the clock. ....with a huge grain of salt and go over it with a fine tooth comb, or at least do a full maintenance check in-line with what the factory recommends, remembering that service intervals are both time and km based. Presumably there's a mainten...

Re: Paint colours

Member Nozem is the expert on things like this. I'm sure he'll be along soon with a definitive answer. In the meantime, Lechler was/is the paint supplier to Gilera. Here's a couple of links that might help: http://www.motoclubgilera4t.it/forum/index.php?topic=4368.0 http://www.lechler.eu/DesktopModu...

Re: Gilera 150 head gasket.

A grade 8.8 bolt is not regarded as 'high tensile' being only about twice the UTS of a mild steel bolt. Generally speaking, anything above around 150ksi is regarded as 'high tensile', while above 200ksi we are talking 'ultra-high tensile'. Given that the studs are required to cope with cyclic loadin...

Re: Gilera 150 head gasket.

The OP hasn't been active on this board for going on 2 years but perhaps you could try here for a manual that will help with some info: http://www.rpw.it/Documentazione.htm I don't have any experience with the early Gilera engines (50's or so), but are you sure the head/cylinder studs are 8mm ? My 1...
