Gilera 500 Saturno kick start question

Hi guys - just brought a Saturno after wanting one for years. I think I am being dumb, but at the moment the kick start does not do anthing, you can just kick it until it reaches the stop but the engine does not turn-over. Is there something I am missing to engage the kick start?
The engine starts on the starter no problem...

in most of these cases somebody has removed the right cover and was not able to remount the kickstarter in the right way
Are you able to read german?
HP has posted a nice description with pictures.
