Hiya Gilera people,

Gavin here from New Zealand building the "Worlds lightest road going Gilera Saturno" :)

I am back to the Gilera Superleggera Saturno project after being distracted for months restoring a 1915 14 litre car.

I have just bought a standard Nordwest 558 engine in the Uk which I am having shipped out to New Zealand to replace my 350. I will make a "Y" mainfold for it and run a single carb.

My question is what carb is the lightest and "best" for a standard engine?
I am after torque not top end power.

My thoughts are.....

FCR39 Keihin
Mikuni tm40-6
Maybe even a 40mm Delorto pumper?

Anyone have experance with these carbs?

Regards from New Zealand
Gavin

Hi Gavin,

I use a Dell'orto VHSB 39mm flatslide carb, It runs really good on it.
I am going to fit double carbs in my Saturno coming winter, so I'll sell the Dellorto after my next and last circuit day. Let me know if you're interested. (the carb is jetted for a 558 engine + it fits right onto the saturno manifold).
