Hi guys. I have been doing some trawling today on line and have seen mention of a machine which I did not know about. It is the Supersport 600

The problem is that the only stuff I can find apart from piccies is in Italian. Does anyone know of this bike? Did it ever go into production? Is it in the pipeline? So many questions and no answers at all :'( Where can I get one? ;D

Thanks Bekas -

so is that 'was a prototype of a bike which has been shelved'

or 'is a prototype of a future bike'

I thought it was a Nordwest frame with a Honda CBR6 motor fitted.
IIRC, Piaggio were in negotiations with Honda, but it all came to nothing.
Someone, somewhere, is supposed to have actually managed to create the beast.

???
The Nordie frame with H***a engine was the rest of the Norturno done by John from the GeN. Wasn't it? Some british bike mag was also invented.

Ok, so what I have learnt so far:
Make/Model: Gilera Super Sport 600
Year of Manufacture: 2002
Engine: Liquid cooled, four stroke, transverse four cylinders
Capacity: 599cc
Transmission/Drive: 6 speed/chain
Front Brakes: 2x 320mm discs 4 piston calipers
Rear Brakes: Single 220mm disc 2 piston caliper
Dry-Weight/Wet-weight: 162kg
Unfortunately, Paul the Moderator on the Gilera Owners of Britian Forum has replied to my post there with:
A bike that "should have been" but Piaggio pulled the plug on it after the two pre-production models were made.
I'm sure it would have sold had Piaggio gone ahead with it, but they didn't and we'll never know for sure. The original idea was to have a Honda 600cc motor but at the last minute it was a Susuki 600 engine that appeared in the only 2 made.
There was also the Gilera Ferro that was to have been an 850cc automatic bike (not a scooter) and that too was shelved but has just recently re-appeared, badged as an Aprilia.
I'm afraid that since Piaggio bought Gilera, it appears that all we'll get with a Gilera badge on are the scooters and the odd 125 2-stroke. Anything bigger bikewise seems destined for being scrapped or re-badged. Hopefully, one day, Piaggio might even read the history of Gilera and then they might realise that the Gilera name was made when racing the 500cc bikes and although there were numerous smaller capacity bikes (50-300cc) there were also some 350-500cc bikes and the Nordwest eventually went up to 750cc.

Saw the protos one day - two running protos and they did not have the honda engine - was it a susy 600 or was it? Suppose it died at the same time as piaggio pulled out of cagiva deal - some great deal of money was spent . . . .shame it had pig ugly looks -
