RC600 -89

Post by jori » Tue Aug 17, 2010 8:04 am

Is there anyone who could tell the truth...89year RC600 cylinder bore is 98mm or 99mm?
It does not so much matter, except spareparts I have are for 98mm bore.

I found behind the corner one really nice unit. Only 6811km on the clock and thats all. Like a new, only some minor sign of usage. Owner was old man who told me that every year he has made a short run it. Even the front tyre is original!

Revlimiter is a bit strange, it should go 2nd gear 78km/h, but it goes only 69km/h. 3rd gear 98km/h and should go 107km/h. Rest gears are not tested. Don,t know how much it rev as this model is without tacho, only temp and clock.

Also it is thirsty bike, around 6-7l/100km with cruising speeds (70-110Km/h). And it is still making some jerking, like a lean mixture. (I cleaned the carb, no big changes). Maybe todays fuel with alcohol is not so good for oldies???

Like you all know the fuel has allways been problem, only 12l tank not good. Problem is solved.

This kit should be originally made by mr. Frigerio, not sure but....only thing I know is that rear tank is missing.

If anyone have more information, please let me know. How many tank ever made and so on.

Yesterday I got those back from painting job. Still some fasteners must be done and fuel pump installation. I tried the pump witch comes within the kit, too high pressure, need some pressure relief valve.

Next thing is the new exhaust, I like to do pipes like this:

Pregnant RC.
Keep us informed wether it will be a boy or a girl

On the exhaust... there don't live very much people in Finland, right?
But they *all* will hear you ;)

*thumb* Joachim

PS you have a little sticker on your RC.... FIN for Finland.
I always thought this should be SUO for Suomi (like on most of the trucks from Finland here around on the Autobahn)
Which one is right?

Hmm, it may be nesessary to make little noise killers too. At Lappland those must be taken off, reindeers are almoust stone-deaf or at least I think so. So stupid they are.

Right one is FIN, I don't know what SUO mean.

Jori

Ps. I have searching from all sources a pictures from gilera rally bikes and never seen two identical tank fairing combination?

Maybe it was to early in the morning ;)
SF was what i have meant.
Asking Wikipedia enlightend me ;)

SF is the old version which was used up to 1993.
FIN is the new one.
Did this mean that all those finish trucks with SF on are built before 1993?
That makes me somehow nervous ;)

All the trucks made before 1993 are here in Africa and still moving slowly with lots of smoke and no brakes!!
A loud exhaust is a safety feature even the goats and chickens scatter out of the way, camels (not Morini's) don't and they are too big to argue with.
I'm looking forward to seeing photo's when it's finished.
I bought an RC when in the uk in September, it has spent many years unused in a farm building and looks very scruffy but when cleaned up will go well with my Nordwest I think.
Regards
John

Hi Jori, if you need more fuel-capacitie; so I had builded in past a front-(down)-spoiler, included 5 Ltr. Tested by Sam (Switzerland) If you need some: I can build it ( but needs some times, so my heatlth is not the best at the moment).

Bye Gottfried

1. How bad quality fuel can be used on gilera engine without any modification? Just asking cause may be that next two trips goes East and more far away East. There is normal to get 80-92octane or lowest I have heard is 72octane (new bmw gs was fine with it). Here where I live standard octane rate is 95, 98 and 99oct. Do you see that I can expect some problems? Should I fix adjustable ignition box (ignitech)?

2. What will be the weakest point on rc600 if we are thinking about 20tkm trip? (ok, I know that it may be necessary to change belt and oil, something else)

3.can anyone give any good numbers and source for front forks springs, with big tanks standard are too soft.

4. rear shock must be better too, bitubo or?

5. what else I should take care with gilera on longway travelling?

With RCR my problems have been:
-rear subframe allways broken
-sprockets and chain wear out too fast
-I am allways out of fuel and middle of nothing.

Please give me good points enough to believe, I don't wanna go to buy a new *** or ***

Should I answer for my shelf?

Wilbers have progressive springs for RC, I may try those with littlebit more stiffer than originals.

4. rear shock must be better too, bitubo or?
I am thinking to go Wilbers, not standard ,but builded with specs I will give.
