Re: Gilera XR1 125, 1988!!!! Trovata!!!! Finally!!!!
Hi guys!
New battery vent tube exaust. Nearly vertical exhaust.
Comparison:
- new battery vent tube exhaust (nearly vertical exhaust).
- old battery vent tube exhaust (in my hand, nearly horizontal exhaust).
What do you think about it?
Work for nothing????
Oh... C'mon!!!!
Now I must to check my regulator and generator!
Ciao

Hi Joachim!Joachim wrote: The cheapest reason would be that you have just to much liquid in your battery
In most cases, the generator itself is not the reason.
There is a voltage regulator which makes the right voltage for the battery, from whatever the generator is producing.
Did you have (or can lend) a voltmeter? A cheap one would be ok. Just connect the two wires to the battery (red on +, black on -)
switch to DC Range 20Volt. Start the engine and rev it up.
Voltage should be about 12,8V at idle and maximum 14,5Volt at high revs.
If you read more.... damaged regulator. This will boil your acid in the battery.
The cheap possibility could also be bad contact at the regulator connections.
You may clean the connectors. Also check the ground wire.
If the regulator is dead..... you will need another (new) one. Modern regulators can neither be adjusted, nore repaired.
At least not with usual home toolings.
The brand of the battery doesn't matter. Varta usually is a good, but also rather expensive one.
Good luck, Joachim
Well.... 1st of all.... many thanks for your precious suggestions!
I mean.....
I've checked voltage on my Gilera XR1.... and:
- light off -> from 1500 rpm to 7000 rpm -> from 14,5 V to 14,8 V
- light on -> from 1500 rpm to 7000 rpm -> from 12,5 V to 12,8 V
I think it's perfect!
What do you think about it?
I think that I had just to much liquid in my battery...... as you said!

Hi guys!
Time goes on.....
Weather it's always bad.... snow again....
... rain today....
Do you believe in me when I tell you that...
.... I don't use my Gilera XR1 since december 2009????
Uff!
Damn!!!
Well... this weekend there's Novegro Moto Expo in Milan!
I'll be there!
I'm looking for a better rubber carburetor collector...
... and some spare parts for for others bikes...
Actually I've just a little problem on my Gilera XR1:
the check blu light of instrumentation doesn't works!
So, next time.... "how to substitute a check light in instrumentation panel"!
Have a nice day!
Ciao

Re: Gilera XR1 125, 1988!!!! Trovata!!!! Finally!!!!
The original reeds are made of metall?
Later ones are from some kind of fibre plastics.
You have got carbon fibre ones?
If not... i know where you can get them
ciao Joachim

Well... I've two couples of carbon fibre petal reeds:
- 1st one, from Adige Bi-Metal head Kit;
- 2nd one, from Germany (eBay seller: Chao parts).
Thank you very much!
But.... just look at my story and start to smile.....
Have a nice day!
