I know its not a gilera but you might like the picture of my Maico 490cc reed valve that I purchased in 1983 at the age of 13 years  it lives in my lounge and matches the sofa  unrestored and good as new :)

Hi Dan.
And now.... about your Gilera GXR 125!
It's a brain teaser!
Actually I find not very much about it, in Italy!
I mean.....
It seems a Gilera E1 125 1981...... But this have a Liquid Cooled engine.....
gilera-e1-125.jpg
Instead engine.... seems at those of Gilera 175 Replica of 1974....
Gilera 175 Replica 1974.jpg
But design it's like Gilera Elmeca 125 of 1978....

Uhm.....
Sorry.... actually I can't help you any more...... :|
But see you soon! *thumb* *thumb*

Have a nice day!

Hi Marco,

Great to hear from you *thumb*

Your Fantic "Brissoni Replica" is fantastic  really do think that the bikes from the late 1970s early 1980s had such great personality *thumb*

Thats the one Marco :D great stuff, thanks for the search  yes thats correct its a Gilera GXR125, 1980 "Nani Replica" I had that first picture, but didnt have the link for the other pictures, they will help with the restoration of Gilera cheers my friend :D

I am going to Bob Wrights (fantic and Gilera classic parts shop ) in the UK very soon to grab some parts for Gilera GXR125, I think that they are rare bikes  and i will restore it very nicely, should be finished before christmas / early new year *thumb* and will get more pictures up very soon, Also found a little engine information but not lots, Mahle piston ect ect

Our bikes should meet, they would make a perfect couple  lol

Also Marco I have an Aspes 125 engine, and am looking for a Aspes CRC 125 rolling chassis/ frame to put it in, if you know of one in italy for sale a might well be interested to purchase :)
looking for Aspes 125 rolling chassis to restore like this *thumb* thankfully the Aspes 125s are not as rare as Gilera GXR125 giggle rulez

Speak soon Marco *thumb* for the next episode giggle

Your off road restoration friend in the UK *thumb* Dan.

Hi.Dan, i am getting nearer to completion of my GXR 125, the engine is almost ready, ive had all new bearings and seals fitted,i have 2 heads and barrels, one will be kept as original and the other one which i will run the bike on will have kawasaki KX 125 piston fitted, i cant find an original piston and the KX one is a good match,i just have to skim the head but it will give me the option of future rebores and 'off the shelf pistons. the original gilera piston and barrel is useable but marginable.im waiting for the seat to return from mxn seat covers, ive had all new decals made for the tank and side pannels, frame, swingging arm, forks and stand have been bead blasted and powdercoated, all cables are new, period renthal bars, new tank, wheels refurbished, new rear fender (bob wright supplies these, exact M. ROBERT copies) new kickstart and gearshift plus lots of other new bits that were hard to find.
The ASPES HOPI RGCR 125 is quite a long way off as ive been concentrating on the gilera, i have finished the engine, new crank, all seals and bearings ect and i am still looking for a piston as mine has a small crack on the bottom of the skirt, once the gilera is complete then i will give the aspes my full attention!
Im still waiting for the gilera manual to be photo copied and sent to me,as soon as it arrives i will contact you and let you have a copy.

cheers,nick.

Hi Nick,
Great to hear from you, and I hope you are well :)
Firstly I must say that your Gilera GXR125 looks fantastic, really nice job :) looks like il be spending some money soon and get my one finished and on the road this summer :D
probably have to drop in to Bob Wrights soon
Im just working on finishing a pair of Fox air shoxs at the moment to fit on my Gilera, but will still be keeping the marzocchi shocks for originality, but the fox airshoxs are nice period items and do look super cool on the Gilera.
in regards to yourself having decals made up for your bike Nick, would you be able to supply myself with copies, an if so what sort of price, also I wouldnt mind getting my hands on seat cover, if you could help maybe we could work something out.
Also Nick getting hold of a copy of the workshop Manual for the bike would be the awesome, that would really be useful mate
anyway my friend, I look forward to hearing from you soon and I hope your Gilera is coming together nicely, keep up the good work, it really does look great :)
speak soon mate,
Dan.

Hi dan, i will send you photos of my new decals, these are exact copys for the tank and side pannels (the ones on the tank and side pannels in the photo of my GXR are the old ones and that is an old side pannel as well,i havn't fitted the new pannels or decals yet) i will also send you the name and address of the company who made my decals, they have kept the decals on file so all you have to do is call them and order a set, i paid £30 for the set but that included all the set up and copying ect, yours will be cheaper, they really do look great. my seat should be finished next week, ive asked them to put 'gilera' on each side of the seat,i know that originally it only had 'gilera' across the back but i intend to fit a enduro tool bag on the rear fender and i just think that the seat looks a bit too plain all black,i need some decent shocks for mine, the ones in the photo are all i have at the mo and clearly not the right ones!
i will send all info to yr email address concerning decals and seat covering.
cheers,nick.
