carburateur gilera xr1
Hi,
I buy a gilera xr1 2 month ago.
I think i have a problem because the engine don't turn at more than 9000tr/min.
On your xr1 engine turn at how much ?
I think that the probleme is principal jet. In fact my principal jet is a 160.
Is somebody know the original size of pricipal jet ?
Thanks for your reply
Sory for my bad english but i'am french

Hi titouf!
Well.... actually the engine of my Gilera XR1 turn about at ....0,000 rpm....
But works goes on!!!
However, here I show you technical data of carburetor, directly from Gilera XR1 user's manual by Gilera:
- fuel N.O.= or > 96 (octane numbers)
- carburetor Dell'Orto PHBH 28MD
- diameter 28 mm
- maximum jet 158 (160 for cold weather)
- minimum jet 48
- starter jet 65
- conical pin X48/2nd position
- sprayer 262 DM
- throttle valve 40
Maximum power 27,5 HP at 9500 rpm!
Good luck!
Ciao
Marco

think you for reply.
The minimun and maximum jet is different jet or is the interval for principal jet ?
Actualy my principale jet is 145 and it work better than whith a 160. But I am affraid by smaller jet.
My problem is my engine turn maximun at 9000tr/min. Is any electronic limitation for france ?

I agree with Joachim: 1st thing, you must to clean your carburetor with fuel and an air gun.
About maximum jet..... 145 it's really smaller!
I don't think that there is an electronic limitation for France.... in 1988? No! I don't think...... Boh!
However, you can try to remake the original carburation with the original data Gilera that I've give to you.
It's possible that some owner before you have made a new carburation for some strange reason....
You can try to look the position of conical pin (2nd from above), and look at the name mark of conical pin (this is very important!) that it is X48!
After that you can try to mount 158 jet....
This it is a simply attempt.... and however 158 jet it's fatter than 145 jet, so it wouldn't have to create damages at the engine!
There are a lots of reasons that don't allow to the engine to gain the right number of rpm.... carburetor a jets are just one of this....
You can also look at the color of electrodes of your spark plug!
- if it's medium brown, carburation it's good!
- if it's clear brown, carburation it's lean.... DANGER!*oh*
- if it's dark brown, carburation it's fat.
Last thing...: does engine get rpm regularly?
Good luck!

First: excuse my bad english! ...I`m not absoluely pefekt!!
First point, you must do following : Take the biggest main-jet ... and drive 10 Km FULL SPEED!!!!! your spark-plug must be in optimal condition middle-brown after them.
If it is to dark; you must take the next smaller jet .... and so on ... othersides; is it to clear: you must take a greater jet.
I know .... it`s a big work, ... but the best way!!!! ... I am a Special-man for Carb-tune-up!!!
You must check first alls in FULL-SPEED .... after them really after them you can tune up the finework ( position of needle and so on). Bye Gottfried

Hi titouf!
Well.... 9500 rpm instead of 9000....
But, this it means that we have gained 500 rpm!
And this it's right! Very good!
9500 rpm it's the right number of rpm! (27Hp at 9500 rpm)
Usually, after this number of rpm, the Gilera XR1 engine have a remarkable power decrease.
This way of decrease it's typical of all engines equipped with reed petals....
If the engine get all rpm regularly you are OK!!!!
Please tell me more!
Have a nice day!
Ciao

But i don't have full power at 9500rpm. My engine turn at 10000rpm if I don't avance.
In firt , 2nd, 3rd gear my engine turn maximum at 9000rpm
in 4th gear it turn at 8700rpm
in 5th gear it turn at 8500rpm
in 6th gear it don't depasse 7500-8000rpm
So i think there is a probleme. But i don't find this probleme.
Thank you for all your reply.

Well.... let me see.... hum.... hum.....
- how many km have your engine?
- does piston have new rings?
- does drive shaft turn right, without strange rumors?
- air filter it's clean?
- air filter it's broken?
- there is enough oil in crank case? (1,2 lt)
- there is enough water in cooling circuit? (1,1 lt)
- air conduct (from air box to carburetor) it's well sealed?
- mixture collector (from carburetor to reed petals group) it's well sealed?
- APTS valve works correctly?
- do you have controlled APTS stops into "APTS" box? (on the right of cylinder)
- exaust pipe it's clean?
- silencer it's clean of oil and carbon residuals (this it's quite important....)
- numbers of teeth of crown and pinion (chain group) it's correct? (13 pinion / 44 crown)
- which type of tires do you have on you Gilera XR1?
And after that.... you can try to control right engine advance with a stroboscopic gun..... (16° degree at 6000 rpm)
If someone have other ideas.... please help me!
Good luck titouf!
