Just forget this 'someones' and what they told to you :)
As Gilera is one of the most famous engine builder the world has ever seen, most of their bikes have an genuine Gilera engine
As far as I remember there are some 50ccm Cougars who have a Franco Morini engine or something like that.
The modern 4strokers *all* have the same Gilera engine.

The 125 Coguar has a Honda engine, but as far as I know all the others have genuine Gilera home grown engines.

Is it possible that the 50ccm Chopper is the Eaglet with Morini 2stroke engine, and theCoguar is an 125ccm with Honda 4stroke engine ???
Sorry, Im not common with those low riders

Hi Joachim,

I believe the Eaglet has a Minarelli AM6 engine, similar to that of the Aprilia R-S50, Yamaha 50 etc.

There was of course the Gilera 600SS which should have had a Honda engine but ended with a Suzuki engine.

But most Gileras have genuine Gilera engine

What engine RC600

Post by pppdrive » Thu Aug 10, 2006 4:24 pm

Just to really confuse things, I see that the new SC125 (race replica) has a Yamaha water-cooled 125cc 2-stroke engine until next year when it will be replaced with a 4-stroke engine. Surely Gilera have enough of their own 125 2-stroke engines plus those of Derbi and Aprilia, so why choose Yamaha?

So now we have Gileras with Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Minarelli engines.

After all, i guess the answer is..... the costs,....., mainly because Minarelli is a local supplier and real nice one. *DanceÜ
