petrol type for Gilera RC600 ?

Hello everybody,

I heard that it has to be used leaded petrol for RC600. Does somebody knows about it? But it is impossible to get this kind of petrol in a gas station anymore... Any ideas?

We just had the same discussion in the german part of the forum.
I have asked Piaggio Germany about this back in '92.
They claimed to use leaded and unleaded fuel interchangable for all Saturnos, XRTs and RC600s.
Now when there is no more leaded fuel available, I would like to suggest to use unleaded together with some replacement stuff like Castrol TBE.
Although the handbook tells about 96ROZ I think 95ROZ also is ok. At least it works for me since years.

but what is ROZ and Castrol TBE?
My friends RC600 is for 10 years in Lithuania and it was always feeded with 95 or 98 petrol. Over 25.000km no problem.
Lithuania is close to Belarus, they still have leaded petrol in gas stations, i will buy there some liters for test, but don't hope to feel a difference...

I use a lead replacement for my Saturno, made by Castrol. It is available in most service stations in UK so would think available in Lithunia as well.

ROZ is the research octan number.
Here we have 'normal' fuel with 92, Euro Super with 95 and Super Plus with 98ROZ.
There are also some special (at least the price is special) fuels (Aral and Shell) with 100 ROZ available.
The old leaded fuel had 98ROZ
There is also another common standard the MOZ number. If I remeber right these numbers are a little bit higher for the sam fuel.

As Paul also mentioned the Castrol replacement was only an example. There are a lot of other brand sout there which you may find at fuel stations or a car parts suppliere.
