202 parts wanted

Post by lambs » Fri Jun 08, 2018 10:40 am

I've managed to track down quite a few parts to restore the 202 inc a complete front end and front wheel, but I still need the parts shown in the attached photo. Specifically:

A - rear mudguard
B - chainguard
C - [I think I've tracked down a pair of these 'fairings'....stay tuned]
D - Twist on fuel cap
E - Complete set of control cables...clutch, throttle, choke, front brake.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks - I keep an eye on kijiji as well as subito. Not much there in terms of what I need but I also haven't found a way to register there from outside Italy, so that makes it a bit hard.

I was hoping someone here might have pointers to 'niche' suppliers.....specialist wreckers/breakers in early Gilera's. I'm aware of Bob Wright, but he can't help.

It's worth keeping an eye on Ebay italy, stuff does come up, but be careful, I bought a Gilera front mudguard badge, 25 Euros, the guy said he would send it to Scotland, and would tell me how much, after I bought it, well, I didn't think 95 Euros to send it was very, erm, forthright!, lesson learned!.
If you come across a rear number plate/light holder like the one in the photo and you don't need it, please tell me. I have seen the fairing for the air filter hose on Ebay but it was pretty expensive as I remember, maybe 200 Euro, and it was red, not black.
If you need photo's, mine is unrestored and original. ish
As an aside, is yours actually 202cc or 175cc?
Alan.

I do keep an eye on ebay.it and that's where I have found quite a few things I need so far. I'm not sure what you mean by a 'mudguard badge'. Shipping costs to Australia are just waaaay expensive....period (but I don't have much choice.......).

Did you see the carb/battery fairings advertised recently - do you have a link? That price is very expensive so out of my league, but I'd like to see photos of the actual items since if worst comes to worst I will have a go at making them.

Any photos are always welcome.

The bore on mine is 65mm (I've measured it), which makes it a 202 if what I have read is correct. Stroke is the same as 175 Giubileo I believe and a swept volume calculation using those bore/stoke measurements confirms a 202. That also fits with the engine/frame numbers. Unfortunately, the cylinder from the engine has suffered some damage due to heavy-handedness by a previous owner.....a largish chunk has been broken off the base gasket flange. I think it can be repaired by a capable welder and fortunately I do know of one of those. I can do the necessary machining after welding.

BTW, has anyone dealt with Bob Wright ? He has an oil filter and a couple of other minor bits that I need, but I am finding that he is very unresponsive to emails. Is it better to talk with him direct (phone?). I don't mind doing that, but it increases the cost for me.

That's normal.
Try it again and again ;)
