engine number

Postby siatamm » Sun Sep 16, 2012 4:52 am

I have a Gilera Giubeleo with engine number *002*1706*. Can anyone identify this model? I don't know where to look for the frame number.

Thank you for your help

om modern bikes the VIN is somewhere at the steering head.
On those old Gileras you may find it somewhere at the rear end.
Under the seat, close by the rear shock fixing point.

Thank you Joachim, I found it where you suggested and It's the same as the engine number *002*1706*.

Please excuse my ignorance, I'm new to Gileras. I'm thinking that somewhere there is a website where I can enter my serial number and get the model number.

If not, here are some additional details.

Motor has Gilera on the right engine side cover
Carb is an ME18DS with correct looking air cleaner
Speedometer is in MPH and reads to 80MPH
rear sprocket has 54 teeth
wheels are 17 inch alloy
gas tank is the more rounded shape which seems to be common on 98 Gileras
Original color seems to be white with black

When I try and measure the engine stroke with a straw down the sparkplug hole I come up with 63mm.

Thank you,

Peter

Thank you again Joachin,

I checked the Registro and found out That I have a 1961 98 Giubileo Sei Giorni. The person that I bought it from thought it was a 124 but I wasn't so sure. Perhaps that explains why it is black and white and has a little sump guard in the front. I'm still puzzled about the engine stroke. (stroker kit?).

I will keep looking for information in the forum.
