Hi I am rebuilding a 1960 Gilera 124 Extra and know little about this mark and want the finished artical to look like this :D

Any one in the UK that can be of help as to where to get parts etc.

Bob Wright Motorcycles is one that I have found and they have a few parts. However I am stuck stripping down the motor, I need to get a clutch centre puller and, a dynamo armature puller. Unable to locate these items so far :( .

Hi Lonerider,
Your racer looks nice any photo's with the fairing fitted?
You will most probably have to make, or get made pullers and special tools, not hard if you can get access to a workshop, I've had to make all the tools for my Nordwest, Morini and even my Honda Xr. we don't have any dealers here in Nigeria, all diy

Thanks John,

the picture is not my bike, but one that has inspired me to get on with mine. I have found the people that make the reproduction tank and seat for the bike in the photo though. They are located in the US.

I bought the bike about a week ago looking like this....

Do not let looks deceive you John! :shock: Although this little bike had a lot of nice touches and, someone had gone to lengths to make up various parts, there were an awful lot of bodges :roll: :roll:

If the carb won't fit... just put tape around the inlet stub until it dose.
The rather over engineered rear-sets, that work fine- fitted to the bike with cheap fasteners and rusty spacers.
A nicely made stainless front guard fitted to the bike with pop rivets :?

I have no concerns about fully rebuilding the bike, last years Minarelli project is now finished so I can devote my time on this. I expect to take a year to rebuild this one.

That half roll of red insulation tape could come in handy, don't throw it away.
See what you mean about the bodges though.

Thanks John.

Made up a clutch puller over the weekend using a pressure plate from an old Royal Enfield Bullet. It broke the first time I tried it :oops:. So had a rethink, and modified accordingly. Clutch now off! :D :D

Glad to hear you got the clutch off, a little time taken to make tools can save a lot of frustration and sometimes damage, I leaned this after breaking a Yamaha clutch basket and having to buy a new one.
I'll be back in the UK from 31st and will collect (on the way to Morini track day at Cadwell) an RC600 to go with my Nordwest here in Kano.

Got the motor fully stripped but for the crank.

Still looking for the dynamo puller if anyone can help!! :D

Hi Lone rider,
If anybody has a picture of the puller it would help to get a copy made, usually the manual shows the special tools required which gives a good idea of what is needed.
I collected my RC600 on the way to MRC Cadwell Park bash but was unable to ship it back as I was unable to find a bike crate in the short ti,e available.

Your visit to the UK went almost to plan then. :roll:

Hope you get the transportation sorted soon! You could always ride it home :lol: then write a book about your experience.

I think as soon as I can identify the thread,(M16 or 17), I will be able to seek one out. I have seen several on ebay that may work with a small amount of modification.

Expect it not to be standard M16 or M17 (not preferred size) thread, they are usually a fine pitch that you will have to cut on a lathe, easy if you have one??
Hope your lucky on ebay
I'm too old to ride it back across the desert, 3 hours in the bush on my Xr400 and I've had a work out!!

Thanks for the info pppdrive, sent by PM. I have tried to reply but the e-mail 'bounced'.

I have this manual also and the part number; the problem is finding some-one that has one.

The dealer here in the UK, who stocks vintage Gilera parts, Bob Wright Motorcycles dose not have one and I no of no other stockist of old parts. :cry:

I think the idea is to have manual to see how the puller looks.
Then take some equipement to measure and make a new one by yourself ;)
