Re: Model Identification?

Thanks Marco! :D I thought it may have been this model. I sent the same information to a guy that retrieves (if he can) old bike registrations, and will issues a letter authenticating the bikes date of manufacture, so that you can get the bike registered for the road. However, he seems unable to hel...

Model Identification?

I bought this bike without any documents, so can anyone identify it from the frame number?

I believed it to be a 124 Extra, or a variant of that type.

The frame, which was originally red, has the number is *101*2968* and thought to be from about 1960 era.

Thanks,
Roger.

Re: Info wanted on 1960 124 Extra.

Thanks!

I bought it and it arrived today! :D

It fits the armature but, the centre bolt is too short to reach the depth
of the crank. I'll put a spacer between the bolt and crank to take up any
play. I will have a go at removing the armature tomorrow.

Re: Info wanted on 1960 124 Extra.

At last I have found a puller for the dynamo armature.

Once the thread size had been identified 18x1.5, I had a look on ebay and found a Yamaha
flywheel tool with the same threads. :D

Re: Alloy Rim Choice?

No, I know a man who can. :D :D

I don't attempt things I have not been shown to do. I tried to re-upholster a motorcycle seat last week. Made a bit of a mess, so decided to let someone who knows what they are doing fix it!

Re: Alloy Rim Choice?

Thanks for the reply folks!

I have bought these off ebay yesterday.....

They are 1.60, slightly wider than the 1.40 steels, but I cant see that being a problem.

Alloy Rim Choice?

I wish to replace the standard 17 x 1.14 steel rims on my 1960 Gilera 124 Extra with alloy replacements.

I am finding it tricky to get the exact size in alloy! Has anyone fitted alloys to there's, and if so,what make and size?

Thanks.

Roger.

Re: Info wanted on 1960 124 Extra.

It is hard to source Gilera Extra parts here in the UK, but Ebay in the US has no end of parts for vintage/classic Gileras, sold over there as Sears. They seem to have a better supply even than Italy! Dose any one know of any Gilera Extra owners in the UK or clubs that cater to this type of bike??? :|

Re: Info wanted on 1960 124 Extra.

Picked up these also....

Took a bit of a risk as they came from the US and off a bike with
allegedly only 350 miles from new.

Just as described  :D

Re: Info wanted on 1960 124 Extra.

I will probably take it into my local engineering shop at the same time I have the cylinder bored and ask them to have a go! :D A gilera dealer here in the UK suggested (as this is what he has done in the past) that I put a Philips screwdriver in the hole and wiggle it around!!  Cant se...
