Re: 202 with Power Dynamo .

Welcome and congratulations on wise choice in the 202. I hope to have mine back together this year.....with any luck  Anyway, you probably already have the fitting instructions for your kit, but they are here just in case: https://www.powerdynamo.biz/eng/systems/7189/7189inst.php It seems the ...

Re: Gilera 202 needs work (lots.....)

Just to be different....two of my other bikes. '83 BMW K100 and '81 XS1100RH (Australian version of the European/UK XS1100S). BM has been my 'daily' (literally) for 20+ years. The XS has just been finished from a rolling 'bitsa'....it's now actually a 1200 but I won't tell anyone if you won't

Re: Gilera 202 needs work (lots.....)

Crankcases have been hydroblasted, masked and painted.....etch prime + top coat. Heat-resistant hammered finish has been impossible to find (importing is way to expensive) so I ended up using an 'ordinary' hammered finish paint (Dulux). Thinking about it, I doubt that Gilera would have used a heat-r...

Re: Gilera 202 needs work (lots.....)

I had to manufacture an inlet manifold from scratch using a bit of scrap steel plate and pipe. Just needs to be plated.

Re: Gilera 202 needs work (lots.....)

Cylinder barrel had a large chunk broken off the base gasket surface, but that has now been repaired. Barrel has also been honed....there was virtually no wear in the cylinder.

Re: Gilera 202 needs work (lots.....)

Engine head has been overhauled (k-lined valve guides, valves and seats faced, etc). Unfortunately there was a large crack in the top fin next to the head cover gasket face. I've repaired the crack but some filling was also needed. I've machined the gasket face to restore it but some final touch-up ...

Re: Gilera 202 needs work (lots.....)

Things have been a bit slow due to COVID and other things best not mentioned....still, it's way past time for an update. Checked over the crankshaft. Overall in good condition with minimal big-end play. Some corrosion damage to the camshaft drive teeth (see previous post about water in the crankcase...

Gilera 202 tank decals (new production)

I haven't posted here for quite awhile, but still keep an eye on happenings :-) My 202 will hopefully be painted this year and finally running by the end of the year......with any luck. This will be a very limited market, but for those that might be interested I've been working with a UK company to ...

Re: Gilera 175

This bike...

https://www.catawiki.com/l/37082009-gil ... 75-cc-1958

....has the same '180' prefix for engine and frame numbers plus a lot of other similarities to yours. Along with the date on the casting, this strongly suggests your Gilera is a 1958 rossa extra 175.

Re: Gilera 175

Keith, welcome, the list I have doesn't show a model with chassis number '180', the closest is 189 (see attachment) but the list may not be complete. Someone else may have a complete list and chime in. In the meantime, perhaps put up a picture of your bike and the engine/frame numbers as that might ...

Re: Gilera b300 gearbox problem

I don't know of anyone that reconditions selector drums (there's probably someone out there....), but that selector drum groove doesn't look too bad, although I think I can see some wear and burrs. A clean-up with a Dremel linishing drum/grinding wheel should be enough. The mating pins need to be in...

Re: Gilera b300 gearbox problem

The 'dogs' (4 round pins) on that gear are very badly worn and that would certainly explain the jumping out of gear problem. You should also check the mating gear 'slots' since they are also likely to be worn....hopefully not as badly. Replacement is the usual way to go, but might not be so simple w...

Re: New Saturno 500 IOM owner

I’m living in Tasmania Ok, sounds like you're on top of it. The reg process appears similar to Qld where they issue a special 'L01' plate, which is attached to the bike and confirms ADR compliance. In vic there's a mandatory engineering 'VASS' inspection (costs $400-$500) and the certificate is han...

Re: New Saturno 500 IOM owner

Personally, I'd take this: It has only 70km on the clock. ....with a huge grain of salt and go over it with a fine tooth comb, or at least do a full maintenance check in-line with what the factory recommends, remembering that service intervals are both time and km based. Presumably there's a mainten...

Re: Paint colours

Member Nozem is the expert on things like this. I'm sure he'll be along soon with a definitive answer. In the meantime, Lechler was/is the paint supplier to Gilera. Here's a couple of links that might help: http://www.motoclubgilera4t.it/forum/index.php?topic=4368.0 http://www.lechler.eu/DesktopModu...
