Re: Gilera 150 Autostrada.....also needs lots of work

A Christmas Eve update.....I am inching closer to completion  Engine has all new bearings and gaskets and head rebuilt. Bore, piston and rings were fine so just a light hone. Spokes on the front wheel I managed to obtain were badly corroded and wouldn't have passed a roadworthy inspection, so ...

Re: Achtung Gabel Nordie

More likely manufacturing defects by the look of them, but only breaking them open will confirm. Fatigue cracking would inevitably initiate from the defects, which would explain the length of time between manufacture and them beginning to leak oil. Best to bin them as repair, while possible with spe...

Re: Went to Arcore today....

No problem. What remains of the factory is only a short walk from Arcore train station. It seems they've kept the original main (front) building in more-or-less original exterior state, but it appears to have been converted (inside) to business offices and perhaps apartments. There's a Gilera concou...

Re: Lenkschloss für Strada

Does anyone know where I can buy key blanks like the ones in the photo ?

The key had been broken-off in the steering lock of my 150 Autostrada. I have managed to get the remains of the key out of the lock barrel but so far I have had no luck finding suitable blank keys in Australia.

Re: Problem with a Nordwest!

As we have stripped it this time, it is apparent that someone has been in there before and when putting it back together had no idea of using a torque wrench, they were more like a gorilla with a rattle gun! Everything was way over tightened. I'd regard the conrod bolts (and nuts, if it has them) a...

Re: 6v LED 'bulbs' ?

I did. Looks a bit strange, because of the cool white Light, but it works. Much lower Power Consumption and brighter Light. Strangeness is fine :) Increased brightness and lower power consumption can only be plusses on a 6v system. They're more expensive, of course, but worth a try I think. *danke*

Re: Problem with a Norwest!

The main worrying thing was that the big end bolts appeared to be over tightened. Curious about this. Big end bolts/nuts are high tensile strength items, so over-tightening results in one of two things; - stripped threads - bolt failure - either complete failure (fracture) or yielding, which is eff...

6v LED 'bulbs' ?

I'm in the midst of a full re-wire on the Autostrada. Thinking about new 6v globes (tail/stop, instrument light, etc) and curious to know if anyone has tried 6v LED equivalents.

TIA

Re: Fork reconditioning ?

An update.....my usual chrome plater was reluctant but I have found another that is confident of success. I've given him one set to try out so will see how that goes. Not cheap but has to be done 8)

Re: Totalschaden

Sorry to intrude, but I don't speak/write German. The photos of the engine failure are very interesting. In particular the photo I've attached shows clear evidence of a fatigue crack (red arrow) in the valve stem. The crack has grown from lower-left to top-right in the photo. Looks like the crack ha...

Re: Gilera 150 Autostrada.....also needs lots of work

An update on progress.....things got a little more complex than expected. The Good - as well as the seat, I've managed to track down a front wheel, taillamp, headlamp, wiring loom, RH footpeg and some other minor parts. - I now have a usable spring for the advance mechanism + new points and condenso...

Re: Fork reconditioning ?

Thanks for the reply. I have a local chrome plater that I have used before so I will see what he says. I think I will need to mask the aluminium alloy part of the leg for the plating process, but it should be possible. I asked bebmeccanica to send me a photo of what is in that kit just to be sure an...
