Re: Fork reconditioning ?

An update.....my usual chrome plater was reluctant but I have found another that is confident of success. I've given him one set to try out so will see how that goes. Not cheap but has to be done 8)

Re: Totalschaden

Sorry to intrude, but I don't speak/write German. The photos of the engine failure are very interesting. In particular the photo I've attached shows clear evidence of a fatigue crack (red arrow) in the valve stem. The crack has grown from lower-left to top-right in the photo. Looks like the crack ha...

Re: Gilera 150 Autostrada.....also needs lots of work

An update on progress.....things got a little more complex than expected. The Good - as well as the seat, I've managed to track down a front wheel, taillamp, headlamp, wiring loom, RH footpeg and some other minor parts. - I now have a usable spring for the advance mechanism + new points and condenso...

Re: 202 parts wanted

I do keep an eye on ebay.it and that's where I have found quite a few things I need so far. I'm not sure what you mean by a 'mudguard badge'. Shipping costs to Australia are just waaaay expensive....period (but I don't have much choice.......). Did you see the carb/battery fairings advertised recent...

Re: Fork reconditioning ?

Thanks for the reply. I have a local chrome plater that I have used before so I will see what he says. I think I will need to mask the aluminium alloy part of the leg for the plating process, but it should be possible. I asked bebmeccanica to send me a photo of what is in that kit just to be sure an...

Re: Gilera Pacar

Impressive.....someone has waaaaay too much time on their hands.... :D I wonder at the longevity of that plastic alternator drive gear running at crankshaft speed on the 4 cyl. I know some single cylinder Gilera's used a plastic camshaft gear but in that case running at half crank speed. Still, the ...

Fork reconditioning ?

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with fork reconditioning, particularly the section at the top of the slider. The 150 Autostrada I have is particularly bad in this area (wear, rust, pitting). A set of forks I've picked up for the 202 also needs reconditioning. Attached are pictures of one...

Re: 202 parts wanted

Thanks - I keep an eye on kijiji as well as subito. Not much there in terms of what I need but I also haven't found a way to register there from outside Italy, so that makes it a bit hard. I was hoping someone here might have pointers to 'niche' suppliers.....specialist wreckers/breakers in early Gi...

202 parts wanted

I've managed to track down quite a few parts to restore the 202 inc a complete front end and front wheel, but I still need the parts shown in the attached photo. Specifically: A - rear mudguard B - chainguard C - [I think I've tracked down a pair of these 'fairings'....stay tuned] D - Twist on fuel ...

150 5v Autostrada rear fende/mudguard

Any leads on a 150 Autostrada rear mudguard would be appreciated. The one on the bike I have is original but has had a number of very poor quality repairs attempted. I keep an eye on ebay.it, plus I've also been in touch with Bob Wright and Susanne Hammer but no luck so far. Photo of what good one l...

Re: Gilera 150 Autostrada.....also needs lots of work

Thanks (again) Nozem for your comments and the very useful information. The photo of the 150 is interesting as it shows what appears to be an air filter assembly, but other photos of 150 Autostrada's I've seen show the carb with just a velocity stack or trumpet.....no air filter. Perhaps different m...

Re: Gilera 202 needs work (lots.....)

Thanks Nozem and Geert for your replies, greatly appreciated. Nozem - I think you are right.....apart from the headlight, the entire front end of the bike is from something else and it is probably merely coincidence that the front rim is similar to the rear. Apart from that, the rear mudguard is als...

Gilera 150 Autostrada.....also needs lots of work

In a similar way to my 202 thread, this thread will be about the 150 Autostrada discussed in this thread: http://gileraclub.de/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8552 This is the beast itself: Gilera8.JPG engine # 104-7639 frame # 104-7639 These numbers perhaps suggest quite late production - 1970/1971 ?? Seat, mu...
